IT'S BREAK-UP SEASON

The temps aren't the only think chilly about January. It's also a frosty time for relationships. In fact, there are more break-ups in January than at any other time of year.

Relationship experts estimate that as many as nine million people consider breaking up with their significant other after New Year's.

Why is January break-up month?

  • From Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Year's, couples spend a lot of time together -- and get on each other's nerves.

  • Also, people don't like to break up during the holidays, and often put break-up plans on hold until afterwards.

  • On top of that, January is the time of the year that people give their lives a review. Since it's an opportunity to make a fresh start, it's an opportunity to get rid of partners that just aren't working. (Snopes.com)

LOSE WEIGHT LIKE A GUY

Men are big losers ... when it comes to weight loss. Some guys can just cut back on how much beer they drink and drop five pounds a month without doing much else.

Yes, it's frustrating -- but you can learn a thing or two from the way men drop pounds. Here are four tips to help you lose weight like a guy ...

  • He lifts heavy weights. Women tend to use small weights and do isolated exercises -- which means lots of work for limited results. Instead, lift like a guy and take on weights that make you strain to do 8 to 10 reps.

  • He doesn't use food as a therapist. Women are twice as likely to use food to fight depression and twice as likely to get depressed in the first place -- making them four times more likely than men to emotionally eat! Take a breath. Try to determine whether you're eating your emotions or you're actually hungry.

  • He makes time for himself. Women often find their only refuge in food. Instead, make time just for you every day, and plan semi-regular treats -- like a spa day -- so that you always have something to look forward to.

  • He doesn't give up favorite foods. Guys usually cut back rather than eliminate their favorite foods. Women often go all or nothing -- then end up binging when their willpower breaks. Try allowing a small portion of your favorites every other day, so that you never feel deprived. (Yahoo Shine)

FIT TIPS FOR 2012

  • Get over your fear of being the fattest person at the gym: This is a silly reason to avoid the gym. There will be people there of all shapes and sizes trying to get fit for 2012, so join in and don't worry about what others think.

  • Carve out the time: With work, kids, hobbies, boyfriends and a million other things, it's easy to tell yourself that there isn't enough time to work out. But it's important -- and important things deserve your time.

  • Trade some cardio time for weights: Many fear that using some weight training will bulk them up so they look like the Incredible Hulk. But you'd have to use a ton of heavy weights (and possibly some steroids) to ever get close to that. So trade in some treadmill time for some weight training and burn that fat!

  • Reward yourself: It takes about 21 repetitions for something to become a habit. So reward yourself when you hit lucky 21 by treating yourself to a new outfit, or new pair of running shoes, or some new songs for your workout playlist. (The Frisky)

GYM "DON'T"

January means that the gyms are packed right now -- but just because there are hot single guys in there, it doesn't mean you should look like you're ready to go clubbing ...

77% of Glamour readers said exercising in makeup is a don't.

TOP SIGNS SHE'S FLIRTING THAT YOU NEVER KNEW BEFORE

If 2012 is the year you're turning things around and are going to finally, really, play to win with the ladies, you've got to sharpen your skills.

When you're with a woman, here are some signs that she's flirting that you may have not known before:

  • Eye Contact Patterns -- In general, eye contact is a winning sign, but there's a specific kind that girls use to show that they're flirting with you. The combination of meeting your gaze, and then looking away is her way of screaming, "I want you."

  • Playing With Her Hair -- Most fidgeting, whether it's playing with her hair, adjusting her clothing or re-applying her lipstick, is a sign that she's nervous and that you're having an impact on her.

  • Enthusiasm -- If she's eagerly asking a ton of questions about even the most boring stuff you're talking about, it means she's looking for a reason to be around you.

  • Contact -- If she physically touches you, it's actually a warning sign. It says, "Why haven't you touched me yet? I've been flirting with you."

GETTING IT ON: Old Women Love Sex The Most

According to a new study, sexual satisfaction is highest in old women.

Researchers found that women under 55 were reasonably satisfied with their sex lives -- and were surprised to learn that women over 80 were also very likely to say they were satisfied.

And, almost half of women who had not had sex in the past month said they were sexually satisfied as well.

THE WORST HAIR FADS FOR MEN OF ALL TIME

With the New Year, you might be considering making some changes in your life and your appearance.

Be careful. You don't want to do something that you'll regret in years to come -- especially with your hair.

How bad can it be? Well, do you remember some of these terrible, embarrassing hair fads?

  • Faux Hawk -- A "business-friendly Mohawk?" Really?
  • Lines Shaved in the Side -- Back in the day, were you a Vanilla Ice wannabe?
  • Frosted Tips -- It's almost never a good decision to put bleach on any part of your body.
  • Pencil Eraser -- Famously worn by one half of the rap act Kid and Play, the haircut made the guy look like a cartoon character.
  • The Mullet -- It wasn't just a haircut. It was a way of life.
  • The Perm -- What were guys thinking when they chose to make their head look like a poodle. (Guyism.com)

GUILTY PLEASURES GUYS USUALLY WON'T ADMIT TO

There's a lot of pressure on guys to be strong and macho, but in their quiet moments, most guys will let their guard down and ease up on the chest thumping.

Most guys have some guilty pleasures that they won't admit to.

Here's a rundown of some of those guilty pleasures:

  • Cooking -- There's nothing wrong with stepping into the kitchen and making a meal for yourself, your buddies or your girl. Baking, on the other hand, is a problem.

  • Female Recording Artists -- Just because you enjoy a little Alanis Morisette or Beyonce once in a while doesn't mean you have to hang your head in shame. Good music is good music.

  • Dancing -- While it's not for everyone, guys who are good dancers have a big- time advantage scoring women.

  • Jewelry -- The thing about jewelry for men is that it needs to be manly. In other words, stay away from sapphire-studded ankle bracelets. It also needs to be used sparingly. You can't go out looking like you just went on a shopping spree.
